Jennifer Carlson, P'2020, Director of Clinical Operations, Sheridan Medical Group (Buffalo, NY). Shadow Description: This is a privately owned and operated, Primary Care Practice. We offer to patients, staff and students the opportunity to interact with and observe all aspects of an integrated, multi-disciplinary team-based model of health care delivery. Other disciplines on the team include registered dietitians, nurses, pharmacists, masters prepared social workers, fitness specialists and neurologist/ sleep specialist. This practice has been serving the western New York community for nearly 15 years. Our physicians have over 50 years of combined experience in a variety of health settings including complex adult medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, sports medicine and acute care with under-served populations and in other developing countries. Background Check, Medical Compliance (i.e. vaccines, etc.) and Signed Health Information Privacy Agreement REQUIRED.

Marcy Di Blasio ‘1985, Assoc. Director of Development, Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice (Location: Marlton, NJ)  Shadow Description: Our office is a small yet mighty group of five Development professionals who raise over a million dollars each year to address costs to our patients and their families that are not covered by insurance. We conduct Annual, Planned, Major, and Corporate campaigns, concurrently as well as two large Special Events each year. We work cohesively as a team, and I think that a Gettysburg student could benefit a great deal from spending time in our presence, as well as that of the other staff members of Samaritan.

Paul Seale ‘1975, P‘2006, Managing Director - Hospital Operations, PennState Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (Location: Hershey, PA)  Shadow Description: The shadowing experience will be the Managing Director - Hospital Operations and will involve meeting participation and interviews with various members of the leadership team at the 551 bed academic medical center at PennState Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Dr. Kevin Braat P‘2018, Physician, ENT and Allergy Associations, LLP (Location: Long Island, NY)  Shadow Description: Dr. Braat's Bio - general otolaryngology (ear, nose, & throat) with special interests in Pediatric Otolaryngology, Sinus/Allergy conditions and thyroid/parathyroid surgery.

Betty Callaghan, P'2019, Director of Physical Therapy, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center (Englewood, NJ). Shadow Description: Students will see patient evaluation treatments with a variety of diagnoses.

Dr. John Dalena, P'2020, Physician, Summit Medical Group (Florham Park, NJ). Shadow Description: John M. Dalena, MD, specializes in conditions and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, gall bladder, and pancreas. Dr. Dalena also provides a wide range of gastrointestinal services, including cancer screening, nutritional support, therapeutic endoscopy, and colonoscopy. You can read Dr. Dalena’s full bio. REQUIRED: Per hospital requirements, students must be 18 years of age and have a 2.5 GPA or higher. The selected student will have to complete a formal hospital application for shadowing through the Summit Medical Group Foundation and a 200 word essay on why they wish to participate. The student will work with the Center for Career Development to navigate this process.

Dr. Christopher Droogan, '1986, Cardiologist, Main Line Health-Lankenau Medical Center (Wynnewood, PA). Shadow Description: Shadow a busy cardiologist (Gettysburg College graduate class of 1986) at a large hospital just on the outskirts of Philadelphia. See both inpatient hospitalized patients and outpatients in the clinic. Witness teaching medical students, residents etc. See cardiology technology including catheterizations and echocardiography etc. Background Check and Medical Compliance (vaccines, etc.) Required.

Dr. Jennifer Kline Donovan ‘1995, Physical Therapist/ Clinic Director, LifeBridge/Physiotherapy Associates (Location: Towson, MD)  Shadow Description: Outpatient orthopedic and sports med clinic

Dr. Stephen Kareha '2003, Director of Physical Therapy Residency Education, St. Luke's University Health Network (Allentown, PA); Shadow DescriptionPhysical therapists work with patients of all ages to prevent and correct problems with movement. On various days I have patient care hours mixed with administrative and teaching time. REQUIRED: Student must have had a TB test within the past year, as well as this year's flu vaccine.

Dr. James Farrell P‘2019, Senior Partner/Doctor, Westside Podiatry Center (Location: Skaneateles, NY)  Shadow Description: Spend a day following the doctor as he examines and treats patients in the office. Learn what a average day is like in a Podiatry practice. Requirements: Medical Compliance required (i.e. vaccines, etc.); Flu shot for 2016-17 season

MichelleLynette Hughes ‘1991, P‘2018, Pathologists' Assistant, Pathology Assist-Temp, Inc. (Location: Frederick, MD)  Shadow Description: Observe and gain hands on experience with surgical pathology specimens that are received in a Pathology Laboratory for gross processing for later microscopic analysis by a Pathologists' Assistant (Physician Assistant/Extender in Pathology). 4-6 hours. David Idank, P'2020, Physiatrist, Edison/Metuchen Orthopedic Group (Edison, NJ). Shadow Description: Time will be spent observing an Osteopathic Physician specializing in Physiatry and spine care who performs patient evaluations and electrophysiologic testing (NCS/EMG).

Jersey Shore Medical Center  (Location: Neptune, NJ)  Shadow Description: This 2-day experience will tentatively include observing a morning report session with the Department of Medicine, an afternoon observing various medical simulation exercises, and spending time with professionals in one of the following departments: ob/gyn, internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, surgery, and emergency. Dr. Kountz will also provide a time to discuss with students about how to get into medical school.

Sean Lilienfeld, P'2020, International Chief Medical Officer and VP Medical Ops (Raynham, MA). Shadow Description: Opportunity to experience corporate role of a chief medical officer engaged in development of cutting edge medical devices covering all of J&J's medical device companies (orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery, cardiac surgery, ENT and others). Will potentially participate in business meetings, scientific meetings, surgeon training, development of marketing collateral. Will be able to tour a large surgical training facility (on site; will ensure no exposure to anything gory) and also see large scale orthopedic manufacturing plant.

Dr. Mike Manzo ‘1997, PT / Founder and President of Company, Atlantic Physical Therapy Center (Location: Freehold, NJ)  Shadow Description: Observing delivery of physical therapy in an outpatient private practice setting

David Marcello P'2016, Pediatric Hospitalist, Children’s Hospital of Richmond Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital (Richmond, VA). Shadow Description: Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) is the major children's medical center in central Virginia. As a tertiary care site, CHoR has multiple clinical specialties (Cardiology, Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonary-to name a few) for outpatient care, a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department and a medium sized inpatient unit for acute care of children. A pediatric hospitalist provides care to the majority of children admitted to the inpatient unit. Diseases range from gastroenteritis (vomiting and diarrhea) with dehydration, pneumonia, asthma, cellulitis with or without abscess, inherited disorders of metabolism and infections such as urinary tract infections and meningitis. The hospitalist supervises the learning of medical students and residents (physicians in training) during their inpatient experience (also known as a rotation). Communication is a huge portion of the job as the family, the primary care physician, the sub-specialist(s) and nursing team members must be kept up to date on the clinical course of the patient. Quality improvement and safety are always paramount for the hospitalist . What will the extern learn/observe during the externship: The daily routine of a pediatric hospitalist- supervising and providing direct care to pediatric patients admitted to the hospital, supervising and providing education of medical students and residents, acting as the communication link between all team members and how to provide care of the highest value and safety to patients. The day(s) will start at 0800 hours and typically runs through until 1700 hours (8AM-5PM). The number of day(s) could range from 1-2 depending upon the student’s needs. Most students in the past have done 1 day. REQUIRED: Background check and Medical Compliance (vaccines, etc.)

Dr. Edward McClain P‘2018, Orthopedic Surgeon, Three Rivers Orthopedics- UPMC / UPMC St. Margaret Hospital (Location: Pittsburgh, PA)  Shadow Description: Student will experience seeing patients in the office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday and Thursdays are surgery days and the student can observe in the operating room. I run a busy orthopedic practice that concentrates on adult reconstruction surgery. Hip, knee and shoulder replacements are my specialty. I see about 40 patients a day in the office on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I perform 5 to 6 surgeries a day on Tuesday and Thursday. The ideal shadowing experience would be for the student to spend a day in the office seeing patients with me followed by a day in the operating room observing surgery. So a combination of a Monday/ Tuesday or a Wednesday/Thursday shadowing would be ideal. The student is of course welcome to just spend a day in the office seeing patients if she or he chooses.

Maria Melone ‘1992, Partner, MORR Dental Solutions, LLC (Location: Westborough, MA)  Shadow Description: ="My company is only two years old so shadowing me for the day will provide a soup to nuts experience of my company and what it takes to make it work. My primary service offering is dental practice brokerage but I also offer business valuation services and consulting to dental group practices. The day may include such things as reviewing legal documents, compiling due diligence materials, preparing engagement letters, reviewing financial information and preparing analyses, talking or meeting directly with clients or potential clients. I am partnered with a regional accounting firm that fairly exclusively provides accounting and business services to dentists and could also give exposure to that group.

Dave Moore P'2019, Pediatrician, Pediatric Care of York (Red Lion, PA). Shadow Description: You will shadow me while I see pediatric patients (well and sick visits, plus emergencies if they occur) in a general pediatric office setting.

Robert Pomponio, '1988, Scientific Advisor, Sanofi (Farmingham, MA). Shadow Description: Sanofi is a diverse global pharmaceutical company engaged in developing therapies on numerous medical fronts such as Neurodegeneration, Rare Disease, Oncology, Diabetes, and vaccines. Students will be introduced to aspects of scientific work within a commercial environment and how this compliments academic research in bringing new therapeutics to market.

Tom Shaffer ‘1987, Executive VP, Sales/Marketing/Strategy, Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF) (Location: Edison, NJ)  Shadow Description: MTF is the nations largest tissue bank. While we are a medical device company, we are also a 501(c)3 not for profit. We operate in 53 countries and provide therapeutic human biologcs to surgeons, hospitals and health systems. Each student will get to learn about our mission, how to operate as a dynamic medical device company in the complicated healthcare environment, while fulfilling our mission. They will understand how we market, brand, educate, craft strategic and operation plans, and how we work with the communities and countries we serve to educate on the benefits of tissue donation.

James Stefanelli P'2016 and P'2020, Physician, Delta Medix (Scranton, PA). Shadow Description: I am a Urologist. Students will either shadow in office hours or operating room.

Dr. Ray Truex ‘1963, P‘1994, Neurosurgeon, Reading Health Physician Network - Spine & Brain Neurosurgery (Location: West Reading, PA)  Shadow Description: Dr. Truex on rounds, in the office, and potentially observe surgery depending on the day.
