Voice Audition Requirements

Bachelor of Music in Performance

  • Perform three songs of contrasting styles from the art song repertoire.
  • At least one song should be in German, French, or Italian. One song should be in English.
  • Memorization is required.

Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Music Minor

  • Perform two songs of contrasting styles from the art song repertoire.
  • One song should be in German, French, or Italian. One song should be in English.
  • The applicant may sing a third song from the Musical Theater repertoire if desired.
  • Memorization is required


Suggested Repertoire and Specific Technique Requirements

Art songs and/or arias may be selected from the following suggested composers:

English/American:

Bernstein, Britten, Copland, Dowland, Finzi, Hoiby, Holst, Ireland, Ives, Musgrave, Purcell, Rorem, Thomson, Vaughan-Williams, Warlock, etc.

Italian:

Bellini, Caccini, Caldara, Carissimi, Cherubini, Donaudy, Donizetti, Monteverdi, Mozart, Paisello, Scarlatti, Vivaldi, etc.

German:

Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Cornelius, Franz, Grieg, Hindemith, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Schütz, Strauss, Telemann, Wolf, etc.

French:

Berlioz, Charpentier, Chausson, Debussy, Delibes, Duparc, Fauré, Hahn, Honegger, Hue, Massenet, Poulenc, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, etc.

Spanish:

Albeniz, Alvarez, de Falla, Granados, Revueltas, etc.
