Gettysburg College's Civil War House was featured in the online Education section of the New York Times as part of a slideshow highlighting various theme houses at colleges and universities.
Lauren Roedner, Class of 2013, is a student living in the house and was interviewed for the piece. Roedner explained that her housemates relive the Civil War lifestyle and culture through reenactments, music, group discussions, and cooking and eating meals similar to those in the 19th century. The house used for the group was built in the 19th century.
The slideshow is available on the Times' website.
Theme houses have been around at Gettysburg College for more than a decade. It provides a unique living experience for a group of students that want to explore a common area of interest or theme throughout the academic year. The themes vary from year to year, as it is the students themselves that put together proposals to live together.
Claire Ferrara, Class of 2011, took the photos that were featured in the slideshow.
