One of IA's principal strengths is advising. Every student who is accepted to the program will be assigned an IA advisor. Advisors provide comprehensive assistance and supervision early in the student's academic career and continue providing assistance until graduation.
Students and advisors work closely with one another in choosing and scheduling courses and coordinating requirements. They will review the appropriate course options within and outside of the major in terms of their applicability to IA and to the student's other interests. Breadth of perspective is one of the hallmarks of the IA major, and thoughtful counseling helps ensure that students do not develop an overly narrow curricular program.
