In the summer after her first year at Gettysburg, Rachel Wynn spent six weeks in rural Africa as a volunteer with the Nazareth Women’s Group. Her goal: helping the women raise money to improve their quality of life. “We came up with the idea of a cookbook,” says Wynn. “We collected recipes, and by the end of the trip had a book they could print and sell to tourists, Traditional Tanzanian Tastes, in both Swahili and English.”
Funds from the College provide some, but not all, of the expenses for this experience. “Raising money to pay for program fees, my flight, and other costs was the hardest part of the trip,” says Wynn.
