Brian Kelley '10

Brian Kelly '10

Brian Kelley '10 started by asking himself, "How do you get someone to feel vested enough in an issue to make a change?" He answered his own question by producing a documentary so powerful that it earned him an award previously won by Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, and Ken Burns.

Brian Kelley '10 came to Gettysburg College for environmental studies and, along with his major, other things started to click. He discovered a knack for outdoor videography while shooting for GRAB.   Prof. Salma Monani's environmental
film course gave him powerful ideas about using film to portray global environmental issues in a personal way. And he studied abroad in Botswana.

While abroad, his independent study allowed the producer/director/writer to bring On the Fence to life, the story of a 480-kilometer fence built to divide villagers from the wildlife in Botswana's Meno A Kwena eco-tourist site and national park.

We haven't heard the last from Brian or seen all he will do that is Gettysburg great as he earns his master's of fine arts at American University's Center for Environmental Filmmaking.
