Fall planning committees

At Gettysburg College, we are committed to a residential educational model that profoundly affects our students’ intellectual, social, and emotional development.

Last Updated: June 2, 2020

We look to the fall committed to return to that residential model, but we also recognize that the ongoing pandemic may present issues about how and whether we do so. To ensure that we structure our fall as thoughtfully as possible, the College has established a Scenario Planning Steering Committee, consisting of four working groups. These groups will explore the steps necessary to a return to a residential environment, as well as alternatives in the event that we are unable to do so. There is an email address associated with each group, found below, for the campus community to offer their suggestions.

Scenario Planning Steering Committee

The Scenario Planning Steering Committee will coordinate the work of the committees below, and provide focused questions and scenarios for response and input of the working groups. The Steering Committee has determined that the basic CERT (Campus Emergency Response Team) structure will be adapted to provide input for fall 2020 and spring 2021 scenarios. The Steering Committee will gather intelligence on the public health issues associated with the virus, the overall impact on the higher education industry, and the plans of peer institutions. This group will also oversee the development of principles to guide a phased approach to reopening.

Each of the Steering Committee working groups are advisory to the President. The groups will generate timelines by which key decisions need to be made; the Scenario Planning Steering Committee will coordinate the decision-making sequence.
