Jacob Marogi ’19 discovers more than just bacteria in first year research

“I wouldn’t be here today if it hadn’t been for a professor I had over 20 years ago inviting me to join his lab and do research, and so I get to pay that forward everyday,” said Biology Prof. Nikki Shariat.

Shariat brought her Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats research to Gettysburg College three years ago, and Jacob Marogi ’19 has been by her side since the start. The two, along with other students in the lab, have traveled across the country to share their findings with students of other universities, fellow researchers and even members of the Food and Drug Administration. For Marogi, this experience completely changed his career goals.
