Women's Golf Championship

The Gettysburg College women’s golf team claimed its eighth-straight Centennial Conference championship with another dominating team effort at Conestoga Country Club on Sunday afternoon.

Gettysburg, which captured its ninth conference title overall, took a 19-stroke lead into the final round of competition. The Bullets added to the advantage on Sunday, tacking on another 11 strokes to finish 30 ahead of runner-up Dickinson College. The Orange and Blue, which has won the last five championship by 30 or more strokes, finished with a two-day total of 714 (352-362).

Skylar Frankiewicz ’20 and Hannah Fireman ’20 earned all-conference recognition for the second consecutive season after tying for third place with identical scores of 170. Frankiewicz, who placed fifth last season at the conference championship, equaled her first-round score by firing an 85 Sunday. She carded six pars and shaved one stroke off the back nine to move up one spot in the standings.

Fireman finished the day where she started on the way to her second consecutive third-place effort at the event. Last year’s CC Rookie of the Year, she posted three pars on both the front and back of the course on the way to an 87 on day two.

The rest of Gettysburg’ lineup - Erin Schroeder ’20, Gillian Marini ’19, and Caroline McDonald ’18 – closed their first CC Championship appearances in strong fashion.

Schroeder secured a 10th-place finish after firing a 94 on the final day and tallying a two-day total of 184 (90-94). Marini finished just off her opening-round pace with a 98. She tied for 17th with a score of 192 (94-98). McDonald sliced seven strokes off her first day's total, carding a 96 and jumping three spots into 20th. She finished with a total score of 199 (103-96).

Gettysburg has now won more consecutive titles than any other Centennial program has won overall. The Bullets nine total championships lead McDaniel College by two.

The women’s golf team has also claimed more consecutive CC championships than any varsity program at Gettysburg. The Bullets beat the record of seven straight championships shared with the women’s swimming program from 1994 to 2000. The overall record for most consecutive conference titles won by a Gettysburg program is 16 set by the women’s swimming program from 1985 to 2000.

Gettysburg received the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship which will take place on May 8-11, 2018 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
