Energy and perseverance: the life of student-athlete Maddie Heaney ’18

Maddie Heaney ’18 knew she wanted to play soccer in college, but she also knew that soccer wasn’t the only thing she wanted to do. So, when choosing between DI and DIII, Heaney was drawn towards Gettysburg’s opportunity to do it all. Over her four years, the women’s soccer team captain has been able to take advantage of Gettysburg’s academic, social and career opportunities while continuing to be a top-ranked Centennial Conference athlete.

Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with a strong academic tradition. Alumni include Rhodes Scholars, a Nobel laureate, and other distinguished scholars. The college enrolls 2,600 undergraduate students and is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
