Google Analytics

The College uses Google Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated site traffic data when users visit our pages.

We add Google Analytics tracking code using Tag Manager (GTM), a code container that ensures we always have the latest version of Google Analytics. Every College web page should contain the global container (GTM-W64X3S7) code snippet, which will load the Google Analytics tracker on each pageview.

Installing the code

Pages on www.gettysburg.edu already have GTM included. For other Gettysburg College websites, add this code inside the <head> element, ensuring that it comes after your page’s <title> element.

Webmasters and developers should refer to the GTM Quick Start Guide for details on code placement. Note that while the JavaScript snippet (above) is required for Google Analytics to function, the <iframe> element that Google says to place after the opening <body> is not.

Getting help and accessing data

Analytics tools are managed by the Office of Communications and Marketing. We provide a digital dashboard for staff who need access to web traffic data. If you have questions, need training, or would like access to the report, please get in touch.
