Connecting to VPN

How to set up your VPN connection.

Use this guide to set up your VPN connection on a Windows PC or Mac.

Setting up VPN on Windows 10

  1. Navigate to Control Panel (search for Control Panel)

  2. Click Network and Sharing Center
  3. Under Change your networking settings, click: Set up a new connection or network (shown below).

  4. At the following prompt, select Connect to a workplace, click next.

  5. At the following prompt, select Use my Internet connection (VPN)

  6. The following will appear:

    • For Internet address type in:
    • For Destination name type in: Gettysburg VPN
    • Uncheck Remember my Credentials
    • Click Create.
  7. Under Network and Sharing Center, click Change Adapter Settings

  8. Right-Click on Gettysburg VPN; select Properties

  9. Under Properties, click the Security Select the “Allow these protocols” and make sure Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2) is checked. Click OK.

  10. In the lower right-hand corner of your screen, click on one of the following icons:

  11. Select Gettysburg VPN; Click Connect

  12. The following will appear:

    • Under User name type: GETTYSBURG\user name (example: GETTYSBURG\jdoe)
    • Under Password: put in your password
    • Click OK.
  13. When Connected you should see the following:

Setting up VPN on macOS 10.12–10.15

  1. Please visit the iSSTP download page using your Safari Internet browser
  2. The link you’ve just navigated to should look like the following:

  3. Please click Download iSSTP.
  4. You will receive the following pop-up. Click Cancel.

  5. Next, click the Apple Icon located on the Top Left corner of your home screen. Navigate to System Preferences - - > Security & Preferences.   Click the Lock graphic (Click the lock to make changes).

  6. You’ll see the following pop-up. Type in your password.  Click   Then click Open Anyway.

  7. After clicking Open Anyway, you’ll see the following pop-up. Type in your password again. Click OK.

  8. Now that the iSSTP client is downloaded and unblocked, it needs to be placed in the Applications folder. With the Applications folder open (shown below), please click on the Downloads folder, located on your Dock.  You should see the iS icon located there.  Please drag the iS icon into the Applications folder that should be open on your desktop screen.  For some users, you may have to go into the Downloads folder and Drag the iS icon directly over the word Applications.  If you Downloads folder is located somewhere other than your dock, locate it, and then drag the iS icon/file into the Applications folder. Note that iSSTP will not work if not placed under Applications.
  9. When iSstp is successfully located in your Applications folder (shown below), please double click iSstp to open it.

  10. After clicking Open, you should receive this box: Please put in your Password and Click OK. Note: this password is your computer log-in password.

  11. After OK is clicked, you should receive the following: Fill in the fields (info below picture).

    • Click New
    • For the Name field, please type in:
    • For the Server Address field, please type in:
    • For the Username field, please type in your User ID (email alias)
    • For the Password field, please type in your Password (email password)
    • **After filling in the Password Field, hit TAB on your keyboard**
    • Click Save
  12. After you have filled in the fields shown above and clicked Save, you will need to click Edit (below New). The following will appear:

    • You will need to add the following commands: require-mppe noccp
    • Once you add the commands: require-mppe noccp it should look like the following:

    • Click Save.
  13. At the iSSTP box shown below:
    • First Click Save
    • Second Click Connect (It may take a few moments to connect)
    • You will know you are connected when you see Connected to server

  14. Once you have properly connected, you may notice a red circle icon with iS appearing inside it, on the top of your screen. This is where you can quit the VPN client.  To reconnect your VPN connection, you can go into your Applications folder and double click on iSstp to open it or you can simply drag the iSstp Application onto your desktop and open it from there.  The credentials and information you have put in will be retained from previous sessions.  If you change your password, make sure to edit that field and click save before trying to reconnect.
