Quarantine and isolation protocols

Protocols for supporting those who have been exposed to COVID-19

For the spring 2021 semester, the College plans to utilize more on-campus quarantine and isolation spaces for students who test positive or who are a close contact of a positive case than we did in the fall.

Overview

Moving more of the quarantine and isolation spaces on campus will allow the College to provide greater care to students and will simplify meal delivery and transportation. In the majority of close contact cases, students will be able to stay in their rooms for their quarantine period.

The College also plans to add additional staff to critical areas including Health Services and Residence Life to assist with case management and contact tracing protocols.

Students who have any questions concerning the below procedures should contact Health Services, or, if after hours, contact DPS to be connected to Residential Life or Health Services staff on call.

Quarantine protocols

Quarantine level 1

  • Test results pending
  • As advised by the College at the beginning of the semester or as directed
  • Student remains in room (generally)
  • Any student in the residential cohort arriving late will be required to quarantine until they test negative
Parameters Guidelines for Leaving Residence Hall Room Shared Restroom Implications

1. Students must stay on campus and remain in their residence hall rooms except when:

· using the bathroom

· picking up a meal

· exercising alone outdoors

· visiting the Health Center

· doing laundry

2. Students are required to monitor themselves by filling out the Covid Tracker in Medicat daily for symptoms and must contact the Health Center if they develop a fever or any other symptoms. Positive responses are reviewed by health services.

1. Students may leave their residence hall rooms for brief periods between 7 AM and 8 PM to:

· pick up meals

· walk or exercise alone outside

· visit Health Center if advised to do so by Health Services staff.

· pick up mail

2. Students must wear masks at all times when they are outside of their residence hall room, both inside and outdoors. The only exception to this rule is that a student who is exercising outdoors, and completely alone--far away from any other person--may lower their mask, but must keep it in place and elevate it if anyone else approaches.

3. Students must maintain minimum six-foot physical distancing from others at all times, inside and outdoors.

When using a shared bathroom, students in Quarantine Level 1 must:

· Adhere to posted maximum occupancy

· Wear a mask except when washing their face, brushing their teeth, showering, or shaving facial hair

· Maintain six feet minimum distance between themselves and others

· Close toilet seat lids before flushing (where applicable)

· Wash hands in warm soapy water for 20 seconds prior to leaving the bathroom

· Take all of their personal items with them when they leave the bathroom

Quarantine level 2

  • LOW risk
  • Identified as a contact
  • Not a roommate or partner
  • Student remains in room (generally)
  • Quarantine for 10 days as directed by Health Services

1. Students who remain asymptomatic may leave their residence hall rooms for brief periods between 7 AM and 8 PM to:

  • Roommate or partner
  • Student will relocate to a single room with private bathroom
  • Quarantine 14 days or as instructed by Health Services
Parameters Guidelines for Leaving Quarantine Room Shared Restroom Implications
