Warning violations

COVID-19 Expectation Examples of Violations Consequences and Sanctions*
Wear a face covering or mask. Student not wearing a mask or face covering. Student wearing a mask or face covering on their mouth only. COVID-19 Warning for the first occurrence. Remote Study for the semester for the second occurrence.
Physical distance six feet from others. Student sitting too close to another student in the library or dining area. (as above)
Register essential TRAVEL with the College including employment, emergencies, healthcare, and religious observance. Student travels away from campus for employment but does not register the employment/travel with the College. (as above)
Participate in mandatory COVID-19 test in accordance to the College’s testing program. Student misses their allotted testing time and doesn’t proactively reschedule. (as above)

Short-term remote study

COVID-19 Expectation Examples of Violations Consequences and Sanctions*
Visit a residence hall space and adhere to the maximum capacity of 3 students or less. Student attends a gathering with more than 3 students in a residence hall room. Short-term Remote Study from the residence hall or permanent address pending testing.
Visit a living space as the other student where students wear masks or face coverings. Student attends a gathering where other students do not wear masks or face coverings. (as above)
Visit a College House, Fraternity House, or an off-campus house and adhere to the maximum capacity signage, or 8 students or less if a sign does not exist. Student attends a gathering with more than the maximum capacity signage, or more than 8 students if a sign does not exist, in a College House, Fraternity House, or an off-campus house. (as above)

Remote study violations

COVID-19 Expectation Examples of Violations Consequences and Sanctions*
HOST fewer than 3 students in a residence hall room or fewer than the maximum capacity signage in an apartment. Student hosts a gathering with more than 3 students in a residence hall room or more than the maximum capacity signage in an apartment. Remote study for the semester for the host and short-term Remote Study from the residence hall or permanent address for the other students.
HOST other students where all students wear masks. Student hosts a gathering where other students do not wear masks or face coverings. (as above)
HOST fewer than the maximum capacity signage, or 8 students or less if a sign does not exist, in a College House, Fraternity House, or an off-campus house. Student hosts a gathering with more than the maximum capacity signage, or more than 8 students if a sign does not exist, in a College House, Fraternity House, or an off-campus house. (as above)
Travel only in the Gettysburg area and remain within 5 miles of campus. Student travels to Chambersburg for lunch/dinner. Student leaves campus to visit some friends in another town. Remote study for the semester.
Follow all isolation or quarantine expectations prescribed by Health Services. Student in isolation leaves their space. Student in quarantine decides to go to class or meet with friends. (as above)
Allow students that are permitted access to campus only. Student allows a visitor from another institution to visit them on campus. (as above)

* Notes to tables

Actual outcome depends on specific circumstances including whether it is a repeat offense:

  1. Seniors who have multiple violations will jeopardize their opportunity to participate in commencement.
  2. Sanctions that are issued for violating a COVID-19 expectation are not eligible for appeal.
  3. Students who are assigned to Remote Study are not eligible for a 10% tuition refund.
  4. Students may be subject to the code of conduct and sanctions including probation, suspension, and expulsion.
