Full-time participants in the 2015 Civil War Institute have the opportunity to stay on campus during the conference (check-in on Friday, June 19th and check-out on Wednesday, June 24th). Single and shared rooms are available in some of the campus dormitories. Please note that the conference includes an overnight trip to Richmond (hotel rooms have already been reserved for the group).
Meal plans are included in the on-campus housing package! Staying on the Gettysburg College campus provides easy access to all college facilities and conference programming. The majority of full-time CWI participants opt for the ease of on-site housing. There are multiple housing options available, as described below.
*Specific dormitory buildings subject to change, based on potential renovation work. If a listed dormitory is unavailable, a comparable one will be used in its place.
Colonial Hall is a residence hall located on the east side of campus. It is the furthest dormitory from the conference venues, but many participants prefer it for its close proximity to the center of Gettysburg (only a few blocks from the town square). Formerly an operating motel, Gettysburg College acquired the facility in 2002 and converted it into dormitory space. Each room in Colonial Hall contains one private bathroom, a small refrigerator, a bookshelf, mirror, an extra-long bed (39" x 80" x 6 1/2"), desk, chair, dresser, and closet space. Colonial Hall is air-conditioned. Many of the bedrooms in Colonial Hall contain two beds, so they may be reserved as shared rooms or as single/private rooms. Visit the Residence Life page for more details on Colonial Hall.
Built in 1999, the Quarry suites complex contains apartment-style residence halls. Each apartment contains 5-7 private bedrooms, a kitchenette (full-size refrigerator, sink, microwave, and cabinet space), a bathroom, and common room. Each private bedroom is equipped with an extra-long bed (39" x 80" x 6 1/2"), a desk, a chair, a dresser, and closet space. Gettysburg College will provide sheets, towels, and pillows to all conference participants staying on campus. The Quarry suites are air-conditioned.
Apple Hall was constructed in 1959 (with an extensive addition in 1968), and fully renovated in 1986. It is located right next door to the College Union Building (the main hub for all CWI conference activities), as well as near the Dining Center and Athletic Complex. Each apartment in Apple Hall contains 2-3 bedrooms, a full kitchen (full-size refrigerator and range), a common area, and full bathroom. Each bedroom has carpeting, built-in closet space, a desk, dresser, and extra-long bed (39" x 80" x 6 1/2"). Many of the bedrooms in Apple Hall contain two beds, so they may reserved as shared rooms or as single/private rooms. Apple Hall is air-conditioned. Visit the Residence Life page for more details on Apple Hall.
Full-time and part-time participants may also opt to make their own lodging arrangements off-campus, taking advantage of the many hotels in the Gettysburg area. Participants with off-campus lodging are still able to purchase a conference meal plan, which would cover all meals noted on the conference schedule (most of which are held in the college dining center).
Please note that these off-campus housing options DO STILL INCLUDE lodging arrangements and meals for the Richmond portion of the conference. You are only responsible for finding your own lodging during the on-campus portion of the conference (June 19-21).
