Investing in Hands-On Learning Opportunities

Campaign Goal: $44 Million

Students tell us how transformative hands-on learning experiences are for them. These experiences allow students to apply and expand what they learn in the classroom while building practical leadership, teamwork, and collaborative skills. At Gettysburg, these experiences happen for our students in locations of every kind, from the molecular biology lab to the lacrosse field, from faculty-led archaeology digs in Belize to on-stage performances at the Majestic Theater.

You can help expand these opportunities by supporting campaign investments in the following:

  • Faculty-mentored student research, so more students can grow in confidence and skill by tackling the demands of intensive research projects with the guidance of expert faculty. These investments will also boost the impact of faculty-led inquiry across our academic disciplines.
  • Expand internship opportunities, providing students with critical real-world experience in connecting their classroom knowledge with valued career skills.
  • Global learning opportunities, including study abroad programs and briefer options that increase participation for more students.
  • An Experiential Learning Program that gives students intentional, purposeful direction in connecting their coursework and co-curricular experience to their career goals.
  • Athletics programs and coaching positions to help strengthen the discipline, resilience, and leadership skills that student-athletes develop and that distinguish them throughout their professional and community lives.
  • Current-use funds to lower the financial barriers to participation in programs that otherwise can be cost-prohibitive for students and families of more modest means. These investments, for example, would make it possible for more students to benefit from our Eisenhower Institute, Garthwait Leadership Center, and Center for Public Service.

“From research experiences to the support I received to study abroad, Gettysburg wanted me to see beyond the confines of campus and engage the wider world.”

–Carl DeMarco Jr. ’25
