Gettysburg College President Bob Iuliano was elected to the American Council on Education (ACE) Board of Directors on July 10. Iuliano’s term will begin in Fall 2024.
Iuliano was appointed the 15th president of Gettysburg College in 2019, previously serving as Deputy to the President and Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Harvard University.
“The role of American higher education has never been more important in addressing pressing issues in society, in creating opportunities and innovation that drive the economy, and in offering a critical path for social mobility. At the same time, the challenges facing higher education have become increasingly acute. The American Council on Education is a leading voice for higher education, and especially given the importance of the work ahead, I am honored to have been asked to serve on its board starting this fall,” said Iuliano.
“President Iuliano has dedicated his career to higher education and is a tireless advocate for student access,” ACE President Ted Mitchell said. “I deeply appreciate Bob’s willingness to take on this national leadership role in service to ACE and the entire higher education community.”
Under Iuliano’s leadership, Gettysburg publicly launched Living Our Promise: The Strategic Direction for Gettysburg College in 2023, which seeks to more purposefully integrate learning that occurs both inside and outside of the classroom. As part of Iuliano’s vision, Gettysburg students will graduate with a breadth and depth of knowledge and the enduring skills most valued by today’s employers and graduate schools.
During his distinguished career at Harvard, Iuliano was at the heart of initiatives that advanced contemporary education and ensured full access to talented students of all backgrounds. Iuliano had principal responsibility for articulating the university’s position on student body diversity and its admissions process. He was also actively engaged in Harvard’s approach to online and related forms of learning, including the formation of edX with MIT, and its Harvard-based sibling, HarvardX.
Iuliano is a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Virginia School of Law.
