All Gettysburg students interested in receiving consideration for need-based financial aid, including Gettysburg College grants or Federal Direct Loans, must complete a new financial aid application each year.
Due by April 1
- Submit the FAFSA. Gettysburg College code: 003268
NOTE: The CSS Profile is not required for continuing students. Additional information may be required for first-time financial aid applicants; contact the Office of Financial Aid for more details.
Information about the FAFSA for academic year 2020-2021
- Available October 1 *FAFSA due April 1*
- Includes 2018 federal tax information
We recommend that students and families utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the FAFSA to directly import completed 2018 Federal Tax information.
For special circumstances (i.e. marriage or divorce since 2018, job loss, etc.) please contact your financial aid counselor for additional guidance. Families can also submit the Change in Finances Form (2020-21) (pdf) to provide updated information.
Recommended: Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool!
This useful feature in the FAFSA permits you to access submitted Federal Tax Return information, when possible, to populate many questions on the FAFSA.
What if I am selected for verification by the Department of Education?
The Office of Financial Aid will follow up with students who, after submitting the FAFSA, have been selected for Federal Financial Aid Verification by the Department of Education to collect additional information.
Is other information needed?
If a FAFSA is selected for Federal Financial Aid Verification, families may need to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool/submit tax return transcript(s), complete the Gettysburg College Verification Worksheet and submit any other information requested by the Office of Financial Aid.
Additional information may be required for first-time financial aid applicants; contact the Office of Financial aid for more details.
When will I be notified of my financial aid award?
Due to Satisfactory Academic Progress verification requirements, we will not prepare financial aid awards until after we are able to review spring grades. Typically awards are available in mid-June. Returning students will view their financial aid award via Student Center. Paper copies will not be mailed home.
Financial aid awards typically remain consistent from year to year. However, a decrease in the number of siblings in undergraduate study or increases in income or assets may cause a decrease in need-based financial aid eligibility, including Gettysburg College Grant funds.
Fall billing statements, which reflect anticipated financial aid funds, will be distributed by the Student Accounts Office in late June and are due by August 1. Contact the Student Accounts office at 717-337-6220 for information about the monthly payment plan through Nelnet Campus Commerce.
Additional FAFSA Information
The student and parent will need a FSA ID (which has replaced the "PIN") in order to complete the Renewal FAFSA. Create a FSA ID at: https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm
Although not recommended, the FAFSA can be completed by mail; a paper version can be obtained by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FEDAID or by printing a copy from fafsa.ed.gov.
