20th & 21st century Latin American literature, cinema and culture (emphasis on Central America); the Environmental Humanities; Literary Translation
Aarón Lacayo is an Assistant Professor and Mellon Faculty Fellow of Spanish & Latin American Studies at Gettysburg College. He holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature with a certificate in Cinema Studies and a M.A. in Spanish, both from Rutgers University. His current book-length project, Unaccompanied Cinema: Ecologies of Violence in Contemporary Central American Film, focuses on the intersections of ecology, politics and violence in postwar Central American cinema. His articles appear in Comparative Literature Studies, Teaching Central American Literature in a Global Context (MLA Options for Teaching Series) and Ecocinema Theory & Practice 2. He has also translated two books of fiction: Gordon Matta-Clark’s visual poetry, Art Cards/Fichas de arte and Claudia Hernández’s Salvadorean novella, La han despedido the nuevo (They Have Fired Her Again).
