Lyyra to perform at Gettysburg College on October 19

The Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College welcomes the nationally renowned women’s vocal ensemble Lyyra to perform at Gettysburg College’s Paul Recital Hall on Saturday, October 19th at 8:00 p.m. The group will present classical, jazz, pop, and folk music from all around the globe expertly blended to show the astonishing range of the female voice. The free concert is open to the public and is funded by the Sunderman Chamber Music Foundation.

Lyyra is the newest professional ensemble from The VOCES8 Foundation, an organization creating world-class musical experiences that inspire audiences. Six incredibly talented women, each with unique expertise in a variety of genres and musical traditions, collaborate to shape the virtuosic sound of Lyyra. The ensemble is dedicated to sharing knowledge and opening doors for those voices who may be underrepresented in performance, repertoire, and composition.

Lyyra inspires social change through inspirational, uplifting, dynamic performances. Reflective of music, harmony and the night sky, Lyyra takes its name from the constellation that represents Orpheus’ famed lyre. The ensemble pushes the boundaries of the female voice in the choral genre.

“We are very excited to bring in an ensemble of this caliber to Gettysburg College. Lyyra delivers extraordinary vocal excellence and versatility that cannot be missed,” observed Dr. James Day, Director of the Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College. “We’re thrilled to host them in our newly renovated, 200-seat Paul Recital Hall. They are sure to shine in this intimate setting.”

Admission to Lyyra is free and seating will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. No tickets are required, but space is limited, so please call (717) 337-6815 to reserve seats or for more information. Doors open at 7:30PM and concert begins at 8:00PM. Paul Recital Hall is located on the second floor or Schmucker Memorial Hall on the Gettysburg College campus, 210 North Washington Street, Gettysburg. Free parking for the performance is available in Gettysburg College’s Constitution Parking Lot.
