UPDATE:  The Patriotic Pops Concert and Fireworks will be postponed until tonight, July 5.

On Monday, July 4, Gettysburg College will once again host the 4th annual Patriotic Pops Concert and Fireworks event. The free evening festivity, which will take place on the College’s Memorial Field, will boast an expansion of events from previous years, including two concerts prior to the fireworks display.

“Gettysburg College is very pleased to once again host a July 4th picnic, concert, and fireworks display for the local community,” said College President Janet Morgan Riggs ’77. “We look forward to a memorable and patriotic family-friendly event.”

Concessions will open at 5 p.m. Food, soft drinks, ice cream, and local beer and wine will be available for purchase.

The Willys, a Gettysburg-based band that describes its musical style as “interestingly fun, strange and not-so-boring rock ‘n’ roll,” will perform from 6-7:30 p.m.

The Gala Pops Orchestra, comprised of musicians from the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra and students from Gettysburg College’s Sunderman Conservatory of Music, will follow from 8:30-9:30 p.m.

The fireworks display, sponsored by Destination Gettysburg, will be showcased at 9:30 p.m. Launched from the southern end of Gettysburg College’s campus, the fireworks will be visible to guests at Memorial Field, as well as to the Gettysburg National Military Park and the surrounding area.

“Gettysburg’s Fourth of July celebration is an exciting event, and an excellent way for locals and visitors alike to get out and enjoy the Gettysburg community,” said Norris Flowers, President of Destination Gettysburg. “We are pleased to see the event expand this year, and hope to see many people taking part in the patriotic occasion.”

Guests are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs and/or a picnic. Parking is available in any of the lots on campus.

In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for Tuesday, July 5. More details, including a rain delay announcement, can be found on the Gettysburg College website and the Destination Gettysburg website.

Other sponsors for the event include the Majestic Theater, Wellspan Health, Gettysburg Foundation, Graphcom, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, Music, Gettysburg!, Sunderman Conservatory of Music, Gettysburg Retail Merchants Association (GARMA), and PayFlex.
