Beginning this fall, The Rev. Dr. Kristin Largen, dean of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, will also serve as associate dean of religious and spiritual life and chaplain at Gettysburg College. She succeeds The Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Donnella II, who served as College chaplain from 1997 until his retirement in May.
In an announcement to the campus community, President Janet Morgan Riggs ’77 said Largen is known for her scholarly work and experience with interfaith perspectives.
“In her role on our campus, Kristin will help expand spiritual care and interreligious dialogue, embracing students, faculty, and staff who bring to our community a diversity of religious beliefs,” wrote Riggs. “Specifically, she will attend to the religious and spiritual needs of our students, oversee a group of advisors who work with student religious organizations, provide pastoral counseling, expand opportunities for dialogue and discussion about issues of faith and belief, and work on policies and programs to enhance awareness of and respect for diverse religious traditions.”
The Lutheran seminaries in Gettysburg and Philadelphia recently merged to form the United Lutheran Seminary. Largen will share the deanship of the new seminary through 2017 when a permanent dean is appointed.
