What is the Alumni Mentoring Program?

The Gettysburg College Alumni Mentoring Program pairs undergraduate students with alumni for a focused, virtual mentorship experience. Designed to promote personal, academic, and professional growth, the program connects students with Gettysburgians who have similar interests and career aspirations.

Each mentoring pair will partner together from October 2025 to March 2026, guided by six milestone meetings—roughly one per month. These check-ins provide structure to the program, while allowing flexibility in how often and how deeply the mentor and student engage with one another. Communication is entirely virtual, making it easy for alumni to participate from anywhere in the world.

“Gettysburg College has a very strong alumni network,” said Jim Duffy, assistant vice president for co-curricular education. “Our students gain great insight and experiences from connecting with our alumni base. The Alumni Mentoring Program is a great way for students to receive personal, one-on-one attention from experienced leaders who are poised to support our students.”

A key element of the Gettysburg Approach

At Gettysburg College, every student in our Guided Pathways program is surrounded by their own Personal Advising Team, consisting of a faculty advisor, a co-curricular advisor, and a career advisor. Following their sophomore year, students can choose to add an alumni mentor to their team—someone who will bring real-world experience and career insights to help ready them for the transition from college to the workforce.

This initiative is central to the Gettysburg Approach—our College’s commitment to build within every student the knowledge and enduring skills for a lifetime of career advancement and personal success. As an alumni mentor, you’ll play a critical role in helping our students to define their goals and develop a professional network.

While student participation in the Guided Pathways is certainly encouraged, it is not a prerequisite to partake in the Alumni Mentoring Program. All Class of 2027 students are eligible to be matched with a mentor.

How matching works

Alumni mentor and student matches are made through connectGettysburg, an online platform designed exclusively for the Gettysburg College community. The platform uses advanced algorithms that consider majors, career interests, and preferred mentoring styles to determine ideal matches.

Students also have the option to “favorite” up to three alumni profiles, which are then taken into account during the matching process. While not all mentors will be matched in a given year due to student demand, alumni are always encouraged to engage through Micro Mentoring—short, informal conversations with students who reach out directly on connectGettysburg.
