Faculty Spotlight: Health Sciences Prof. Victoria Wolf

Health Sciences Prof. Victoria Wolf works with students on a research project in her lab at Gettysburg

Health Sciences Prof. Victoria Wolf joined Gettysburg College as a visiting assistant professor in 2022. She is now in her second year as assistant professor of health sciences.

Wolf received a B.S. in biological engineering and later earned her M.S. in biomedical engineering from Mississippi State University. She completed her Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. Her research is broadly focused on how cardiovascular and kidney function affects brain health. Wolf’s laboratory uses rodent models of hypertension to test rehabilitation interventions for stroke recovery and to explore sex-differences in age-related cognitive decline.

In her Anatomy and Physiology courses, Wolf guides her students through an exploration of the human body, encouraging them to think about how different organ systems work together to maintain life. Wolf has also designed a new course, Functional Anatomy and Biomechanics, that takes a hands-on approach to teaching students about the science of movement. She has dedicated a substantial amount of time to incorporating the anatomage tables in our Virtual Dissection Laboratory in this class. Outside of academia, Wolf enjoys spending time with her growing family, listening to Taylor Swift, and needlepoint.

“Over the last year, I have really enjoyed teaching students whom I taught during their sophomore year for Anatomy and Physiology again as seniors in my Functional Anatomy and Biomechanics class,” she said. “I love seeing how much they have learned but also how much confidence they have gained in their abilities.”
