Former student-athlete, coach, and administrator brings nearly two decades of leadership experience from Frostburg State University to build on Gettysburg’s tradition of athletic excellence.
Troy Dell ’95 has come full circle. After nearly two decades leading transformative initiatives as director of athletics at Frostburg State University, Dell is returning to his alma mater as executive director of athletics and recreation.
At Frostburg, Dell oversaw 25 varsity sports, intramural programs, and a comprehensive community wellness initiative. His leadership was pivotal in Frostburg’s 2019 transition from Division III to Division II and he strengthened student-athlete experiences by expanding athletic training and strength programs, introducing new varsity sports, and increasing academic performance across teams.
Dell returns to the place where his collegiate career began. A native of Hanover, Pennsylvania, he was a four-year letterwinner on the wrestling mat and graduated with a degree in history. He served as head wrestling coach in 1997-98 and remained in the role for a decade. He was also assistant director of athletics for five years, where he guided facilities operations, first-year orientation, and interdepartmental initiatives.

“As an undergraduate, Gettysburg College provided me with a foundation of academic excellence that carried into my professional career.”

The homecoming presents a new chapter for Dell and his wife Toni. After spending nearly two decades at Frostburg watching their four children grow and compete as student-athletes at the collegiate level, the upcoming semester will see the couple return to their family roots and embark on an exciting opportunity alongside student-athletes, coaches, and staff at Gettysburg.
“Most of last 25 years has been about my wife and I working together to raise and support our children through their activities,” said Dell, who plans on running the battlefield with his Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Bentley. “I'm honored to return and work with today's student-athletes and look forward to collaborating across campus, as well as with alumni and friends of the College."
