Professional Staff Roles

Associate Dean of College LifeThe Associate Dean of College Life is responsible for the Office of Residential Education, supervises the Director and Associate Director, and overseeing department's budget. This person's responsibilities include overseeing Orientation, the First-Year Dashboard, Charting Your Course (CYC), the Common Read, and coordination of Burg Program with the Provost's Office. This person also manages Off-Campus Housing including community relations; coordinates the On-Call and Dean On-Call schedules; serves as a chair for the Student Conduct Review Board; serves as a member and chair of the Sexual Misconduct Relationship Violence Hearing Panel and Review Board; serves on the Alcohol Planning Team; serves on the Enrollment Management Committee; manages the CARE group, and assists with the planning of Commencement.

Director of Residential Education – The Director of Residential Education is responsible for oversight of on-campus housing. This includes over 2,000 beds and 45 residential buildings. The Director supervises both Assistant Directors and the Senior Administrative Services Assistant, assists in supervising four of our College House Leaders, oversees the department's budget, and also works with the residential furniture budget and purchasing. This staff member also serves as a member of CARE, is a Burg Administrator, serves as a chair for the Student Conduct Review Board, serves on the Enrollment Management Committee, and serves as a member and chair of the Sexual Misconduct Relationship Violence Hearing Panel and Review Board.

Associate Director of Residential Education and Housing - The Associate Director is a full-time professional staff member who has a masters degree and at least three years experience. This person is responsible for the selection, training, and supervision of our student staff and also supervises the full time Residential Life Coordinators who work with students in the first-year buildings. The Associate Director also is responsible for first-year orientation and the extended orientation (CYC) program and supervises the Orientation Student Coordinator and the Extended Orientation Student Coordinator. This staff member also manages and oversees the department's learning plans and assessments.  The Associate Director also serves as a Burg administrator, serves as a hearing officer and meets with students who violate college policies, and serves as an administrator/advisor for the Student Conduct Review Board.

Assistant Director of Residential Education – The Assistant Director is a full-time professional staff member who has a masters degree and at least two years experience. The Assistant Director oversees all upperclass housing areas and works with upperclass programs such as Sophomore Resources, College Houses, and the RISE program. The Assistant Director is responsible for the day to day operations of their assigned residence halls, including hall openings/closings, roommate mediations, and managing area budgets. This staff member supervises the Assistant Residential Life Coordinator, RC and CA staff, and College House Leaders in their day-to-day duties. This person also serves as a Burg administrator, serves as a hearing officer and meets with students who violate college policies, serves as an administrator for the Student Conduct Review Board, and serves as a member of the Sexual Misconduct Relationship Violence Hearing Panel and Review Board.  This person also works with the Associate Director to develop student staff training.

Assistant Director of Residential Education for Housing – The Assistant Director manages the housing operations for the campus. This includes housing assignments/selection for all students, room changes, key inventory, break housing, working with students who have disability housing accommodations, and supervises the billing and room change process. The assistant director also assists with troubleshooting card access issues for students.

Residential Life Coordinators (2) – Residential Life Coordinators (RLCs) are full-time professional staff who each have a Masters degree in Education or a related field. Each RLC is responsible for a set of residence hall buildings and the residents within. One Residential Life Coordinator works with the East Quad (Hanson, Patrick, and Huber Halls) and one works with the West Quad (Rice, Paul, Stine). The Residential Life Coordinators are responsible for the day to day operations of their assigned residence halls. This includes working with students on roommate conflicts, hall openings/closings, and managing their area budgets. They supervise the RC and RA staff in their day-to-day duties and also assist in supervising 3-4 College House Leaders. They serve as hearing officers and meet with students who violate college policies and also serve as Burg administrators. The RLCs also work with the Associate Director to develop student staff training.

Senior Administrative Services Assistant – The Senior Administrative Services Assistant for Residential Education oversees the daily operations of the main office, including the supervision of several student office assistants. This staff member works with the Associate Dean of College Life and the Director of Residential Education in overseeing the department’s budget. The Senior Administrative Services Assistant also provides some assistance with housing processes throughout the year (semester openings and closing, early arrivals, room changes, etc.), manages and updates the department's website, works with troubleshooting card access issues for students, and coordinates summer housing for those Gettysburg College students who remain on campus during the summer.
