Smith House
Smith House is located along North Washington Street between Van Horn House and Lau House. Considered part of the Ice House Complex, Smith House was named after Marion Todd Smith '48, who was a math major and member of Chi Alpha Sigma at Gettysburg College. Following graduation, she began a career as a micro analyst.
Smith House is a 2-story house that houses 8 students, all in single rooms. Smith House has a full kitchen and common space on the first floor. There are three bathrooms in this facility, one on the first floor and two on the second floor. All bathrooms accommodate one person at a time and are gender-neutral. There are two single bedrooms on the first floor and six on the second floor.
The basement of Smith House contains a laundry facility that students from several nearby residence halls share.
Each student is provided with an extra-long bed (39 inches x 80 inches x 6 1/2 inches), a desk and chair; a dresser and closet space.
Bed frames are adjustable and can be set by the student to one of three height options:
- Lowest setting (1st notch): 13 inches of clearance between the floor and the bottom of the bed
- Middle setting (2nd notch): Approximately 18 inches of clearance
- Highest setting (3rd notch): 23 inches of clearance
Students may also choose to have their beds lofted or bunked. Lofted beds allow furniture such as the desk, chair, and dresser to fit underneath. Requests to loft or bunk your bed must be submitted via a Facilities work order request to Facilities Services.
