Advisor Requirements

ADVISOR REQUIREMENTS

Fraternities and sororities are expected to have advisory support beyond the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life that can provide mentorship to members, assist with understanding policies and procedures, provide input and perspective on organizational decisions, and help manage the day-to-day operations of the organization. Each organization must minimally have the advisors listed in this section but may have as many advisors as they deem necessary.

Chapter Advisor

All chapters are expected to have at least one advisor that is approved or recognized by their inter/national headquarters to serve in that role. These advisors may not be staff members in the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life, be simultaneously serving as their faculty advisor, or be employed by the College in a role that may cause a conflict of interest.

Faculty Advisor

All chapters are expected to have at least one advisor that is a faculty member at Gettysburg College. These advisors must be full-time employees of the College. Chapters are not required to replace their advisor if they take a sabbatical provided the faculty member intends to remain their advisor upon their return. Chapters that do not have an advisor but can show proof of regular good faith attempts to recruit one will be considered in compliance with this policy.

Housing Corporations for Privately-Owned Facilities

Chapters with privately-owned facilities are expected to have a Housing Corporation that is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the facility. Members of the Housing Corporation may also serve in the Chapter Advisor role.
