Minimum Requirements for Recognition

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR RECOGNITION

Recognized fraternities and sororities are expected to positively contribute to the Gettysburg College community and provide programming and opportunities to their members consistent with their values and the values and expectations of the College. To maintain recognition, organizations must continue to meet these expectations and complete the administrative requirements listed in this section.

Organization Registration

All chapters must re-register their organization with the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life before the first day of classes each semester. As part of the re-registration process, chapters must provide updated leadership and membership rosters, copies of their chapter constitution and bylaws, and any changes to their advisors, housing corporation, and/or headquarters contact(s).

Liability Insurance Requirements*

All fraternities and sororities must maintain liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000 per incident and $2,000,000 aggregate. Chapters must submit a valid certificate of insurance to the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life within two weeks of their previous certificate expiring.

Indemnification Agreements*

All fraternities and sororities must have a signed indemnification agreement with the College. These agreements are maintained by the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life and copies are provided at the request of chapter presidents, advisors, and headquarters staff.

Affiliation with a National Organization*

Chapters must maintain recognition with their inter/national organization.

Annual Evaluation Process*

Chapters must participate in the Fraternity & Sorority Annual Evaluation Process facilitated by the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life. Chapters that receive a rank of Underachieving or Unacceptable in either a category or as their overall score must develop an improvement plan with the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life. The Office of Student Activities & Greek Life may add expectations and modify or suspend privileges as part of this plan or if sufficient progress is not made towards the plan throughout the year.
