Bathroom Access Policy

In an effort to create a safe and welcoming environment where all community members (students, faculty, staff, visitors, etc.) feel supported and empowered to be themselves, Gettysburg College aims to provide safe and accessible bathrooms across campus. Gettysburg College affirms the right of community members to use the bathrooms that best correspond to their gender identity and/or meet sensory needs. Gender inclusive and sensory friendly restrooms are currently available in many campus buildings for individuals who do not feel comfortable using gender-specific facilities or have auditory sensitivities. As such, most of the single-occupancy gender inclusive restrooms have also been equipped with both paper towels and hand dryers enabling the individual to choose what best meets their needs. For the purposes of this policy, bathroom and restroom are used interchangeably to refer to toilet and shower facilities in college buildings.

In an on-going effort to provide an adequate number of gender inclusive and sensory friendly facilities, Gettysburg College commits to including gender inclusive bathrooms which are also sensory friendly in future building projects, as well as examining and de-gendering unnecessarily gendered single-occupancy spaces that currently exist on campus.
