President Glassick 1977-1988
Charles Glassick commenced his tenure as president of Gettysburg College in the summer of 1977. A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and Princeton University, Glassick came to Gettysburg from the University of Richmond, where he had served as vice president for academic affairs. During his 12-year tenure, Glassick raised the college’s sights in academics and fund-raising, built a new library, spurred the creation of interdisciplinary programs, founded the Gettysburg Review, and earned recognition as one of the nation’s 100 best college presidents.
