Professor Tina Gebhart’s ceramic artworks focus on lines of simplicity, variations on visual units, and interrupting repetition. She references lobed garden fruits, architecture, Sung and Koryo Dynasty pots, robust American diner-wares, and the Terracotta Army. Her thrown and altered porcelain pots take function into the conceptual in order to return to use, with particular interest in teapots and plates.
 
Her artwork is included in permanent collections of the American Museum of Ceramic Art and the Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramics, as well as nationally and internationally notable private collections (Irving Blum, Sidney Swidler). Tina’s artwork has been featured in international and national exhibitions for over two decades.    
 
A two-time finalist for the Zanesville Prize in ceramics, Tina’s artwork has been featured on the cover of Ceramics Monthly.  Her awards and honors include the SFPN Pfannebecker Award and multiple Maryland State Individual Artist Grants.
 
Professor Gebhart is Phi Beta Kappa. She pursues and encourages art-making and art studies that intersect with other disciplines, including ceramic glaze chemistry, art and technical writing, archeology collaborations, and functional design solutions for objects and processes.
 
She encourages double majors in art, combining art and creative thinking in compelling and highly marketable ways.  She mentors the Art House, Art Alliance, and the Ceramics Club (the Empty Bowls Project).
