Student Learning Outcomes

Studio Art Majors will:

  • Demonstrate technical and conceptual proficiency within an artistic practice of one or more departmental media – drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography.
  • Demonstrate critical consideration of their own work and that of other artists, both in written and oral formats
  • Develop analytical skills that recognize contemporary art concepts and art historical references, positioning the dialog in a contemporary context.  
  • Produce an Artist Statement, articulating meaning, ideas, process, critical dialog, and contemporary context of the artwork/s.
  • Successfully exhibit a body of work as part of a senior exhibition.
  • Produce a digital portfolio of their work and discuss their artistic practice with a faculty panel.

Art History Majors will:

  • Visually analyze works of art and architecture
  • Engage in research, critical thinking, writing and public presentation
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the history, style and context of major works of art and architecture from western and eastern traditions
  • Recognize and apply methodological approaches used in art historical scholarship
  • Demonstrate skills relating to the professional practice of Art History such as curation, exhibition display and professional research presentation

 

Art History Minors will:

  • Be able to visually analyze works of art and architecture
  • Demonstrate the ability to engage in research, critical thinking and writing
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the history, style and context of works of art and architecture from selected periods in western and eastern traditions
  • Be able to apply and recognize methodological approaches used in art historical scholarship
  • Demonstrate skills relating to the professional practice of Art History such as curation and exhibition display
