Professor Qi Deng joins the Economics Department as a Visiting Associate Professor for the 2025–26 academic year. Before coming to Gettysburg, he served as a visiting faculty member at Sacred Heart University. His research interests span financial markets, financial economics, financial econometrics, the applications of AI in finance and public health. He has published in leading academic journals, including the International Review of Financial Analysis, Emerging Markets Review, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Journal of Medical Internet Research, etc. He has secured research funding totaling several hundred thousand dollars.
Currently, Professor Deng investigates liquidity risk in both traditional and alternative financial assets and manages a multimillion-dollar quantitative hedge fund. He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Portsmouth (UK), an MSEE from Purdue University, a BS in Physics from Peking University (China), and a Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF). He is a member of Sigma Xi and the author of 12 issued patents. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and exploring diverse cultures and cuisines.
