Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will demonstrate

  1. Language proficiency: at least Advanced-low in listening, reading, writing and speaking (as established by the ACTFL guidelines).  In doing so, students will demonstrate high proficiency in understanding French grammatical systems.
  2. Textual competence: the ability to comprehend and analyze a wide range of texts, taking account of factors such as text type, audience, purpose, organization, discourse conventions, rhetorical elements, and linguistic features, as well as historical, geographical, cultural and intellectual context.
  3. Interaction within a community of practice: the ability to engage with members of the scholarly community on a variety of topics related to the French-speaking world.
  4. Use of French language in a variety of contexts: the ability to produce personal, informed and critical understanding of French and Francophone culture experienced through a full-immersion program in France for at least a semester.
