Therapeutic Visual Arts Studies
Description:Therapeutic Visual Arts Studies combines courses in Psychology, Education and Visual Arts. Art Therapy is a revolutionary and expanding field of psychotherapy which uses art media as a form of communication for people suffering from a wide range of difficulties, or disabilities. With this major, the student builds a strong foundation of skill in multiple areas of visual art along with gaining a broad understanding of the human mind.
The capstone project will comprise research involving a group of school children from Adams County. The student will develop a series of lessons, based on the use of art and communication, to test whether or not such self-expression improves the student's outlook and emotional stability. She will evaluate her results through existing art therapy theory and practice.
