Requirements for the Mathematics Honors Program
In order to graduate with honors from the Mathematics Department, a student must do all of the following in addition to satisfying the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher in the major
- Achieve an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
Courses
- Must pass at least two of the following: Math 315, Math 321, Math 331
Creative Endeavor
Participate substantially in at least two of the following:
- A presentation at an off-campus mathematics conference
- An on-campus mathematics presentation (the presentation cannot be part of the requirements for a course, and it must be approved by the department chair)
- Putnam Exam
- Mathematical Contest in Modeling
- Off-campus mathematics internship
- Mathematics research project
- Some other project approved by the department chair
Department Activity
Participate substantially in at least two of the following:
- Attend a mathematics conference
- Serve on a Faculty Search Committee
- Serve as a Peer Learning Associate (PLA) or Grader for at least three semesters
- Help with Get Acquainted Day
- Attend at least 10 mathematics colloquia
- Other activities approved by the department chair
