A solo and chamber artist in classical music, percussionist Robert Rocheteau is known for his vibrant and refined interpretations. Robert is an ardent advocate for the classical solo percussion artform. He performs the masterpieces of the 21st and 20th centuries and collaborates with today’s esteemed composers to create new music. Recent highlights include performances at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, the Sound Scene Festival at the Hirschorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and multiple performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Robert is an in-demand chamber musician who regularly collaborates with artists from around the globe. He enjoys collaborations with various violinists, cellists, flutists, trumpeters, percussionists, and other instrumentalists along with various mixed chamber ensembles and string quartets. Robert recently released a duo for marimba and trumpet entitled Fresh Air by Micah Levy, and he is performing a program featuring marimba with string quartet in the 2025-26 season.
Robert devotes a large portion of his artistry to his pierrot plus percussion ensemble The Victory Players. Robert is a founding member of The Victory Players, and they are the ensemble-in-residence to the historic Victory Theatre in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The ensemble prides itself in being a diverse new voice in contemporary classical music that reaches a broad range of audiences. Recent highlights include a gala performance at the Sala Sinfónica Pablo Casals in Puerto Rico as well as residencies at Yale University and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Robert is the Director of Percussion Studies at the Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College. Robert holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory, University of Maryland College Park, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His teachers were Robert van Sice, Ayano Kataoka, Jon Bisesi, Jauvon Gilliam, Shaun Tilburg, and Thomas Hannum.Discover more at www.robertrocheteau.com
