What are elevator wraps? Elevator wraps are graphic images that adhere to the outside (and sometimes the inside) of elevator doors. They are also referred to as “elevator door skins.” Sometimes the wraps are in the form of an advertisement.
Our new Musselman Library elevator wraps are custom made—all the images, from the lower level to the fourth level, are from our own Special Collections & College Archives. Here is what you will see on each floor:

Through Our Eyes is an exhibition made up of photographs taken by refugee children who are forced to live in the hotspot of Samos, Greece. It shows us the daily life of refugee people from the inside of the camp. We can see their daily struggles, not like the pictures made by photographers or journalists, but from a different point of view. We can see their daily life through their own eyes. The photos were taken by Mazí students; Mazí is a youth center run by the Still I Rise NGO in Samos.
Austin Stiegemeier, Assistant Professor of Art & Art History, arranged to bring this exhibit to the Gettysburg College campus in the spring of 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic made this impossible. However, partnering with Musselman Library and project creator Nicoletta Novara, a digital version of the exhibition has been created and is available at https://astiegem.sites.gettysburg.edu/through-our-eyes/.

Library Stairwell
This stairwell exhibit displays some of the photographs taken by Dan Gilbert, an ethics and management professor at Gettysburg College from 1999-2014, who roamed the campus with his beloved 35mm Canon AE-1 camera. Dan continues to photograph his environment which is now Claremont, California, where it rains only four months each year. Maples cannot thrive in southern California!
