The Women's Golf team turned in an incredible record-breaking performance in the final round of the Centennial Conference Championship on the way to its seventh-straight title at Foxchase Golf Club on Sunday.
As a team, the Bullets blew away the field in round two with a record-shattering score of 311 – six strokes better than the program record and 16 better than the previous low round at the conference tournament. Gettysburg finished with a two-day total of 638, which topped its own conference championship scoring record by 30 strokes. The Bullets out-distanced runner-up McDaniel College by 71 strokes, marking the largest margin of victory at the tournament in 12 years.
Sarah Hansen '17 turned in her own record-breaking performance over the two days. After tying the single-round record with a 75 on Saturday, Hansen posted the same score on Sunday to best the previous two-day tournament record by five strokes. The senior only got better as the day went on and finished one-under on the back nine thanks to birdies on No. 13 and No. 16. It was her second-straight conference title and she was also named CC Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
Samantha Sessa ’18 earned all-conference accolades for the third consecutive season. She shot 79 on the final day to claim runner-up with a two-day total of 160. It was the junior's 14th career round in the 70s. Sessa closed strong on the back nine, shooting two-over and reeling off three-straight pars to close the final round.
Hannah Fireman ’20 punctuated the record day by recording a career-low 76 on Sunday. She sliced 10 strokes from her opening round and placed third with a 162. Fireman was the top scoring freshman and was named the CC Rookie of the Year. She posted a birdie on the par-5, 452-yard No. 14 and shot just one-over on the back nine.
Skylar Frankiewicz ’20 finished in a tie for fifth to give Gettysburg four all-conference performers for the first time in program history. She improved four strokes on day two with a final round 81 and turned in a total score of 166.
Katie McCarthy ’20 just missed all-league status with an eighth-place finish. McCarthy improved her score by three strokes with an 84 and posted 171 for the tournament. The first-year tallied one birdie on the day on No. 14.
Gettysburg received the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship which will take place on May 9-12 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
