Through distinctive partnerships offering guaranteed postgraduate opportunities, Gettysburg College prepares its graduates to apply the knowledge and skills most desired by employers today.
Gettysburg College is proud to announce a new partnership with Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, the top-ranked school for public affairs according to U.S. News and World Report. Together, Gettysburg College and the Maxwell School will work to increase the awareness of public service, while advising Gettysburg students and alumni on their path to careers in public and global affairs.
“Our partnership with Syracuse University’s Maxwell School represents a powerful commitment to public service and leadership development,” said Gettysburg College Provost Jamila Bookwala. “Our students have always been guided by a strong sense of purpose, and this collaboration provides them with the opportunity to deepen their impact through advanced studies in public administration and international relations. We are eager to see how they will choose to apply what they learn through this innovative program to make a meaningful difference in the world.”

Gettysburg College students and alumni can apply to and enroll in one of the following professional master’s degree programs by the Maxwell School’s Public Affairs and International Relations Department:
- Master of Public Administration
- M.A in International Relations
- M.A in Public Diplomacy and Global Communications
- M.S in Sustainable Organizations and Policy
Gettysburgians can also pursue an Executive Master of Public Administration or Executive M.A. in International Relations if they have at least seven years of professional work experience.
The application fee will be waived for all interested Gettysburg students and alumni. Applicants who meet the required criteria are guaranteed admission and a partnership scholarship in the amount of 40% of tuition charges for any of the professional master’s programs or 30% for either of the executive master’s programs. Highly qualified candidates may be eligible for a higher award.
Current Gettysburg undergraduate students can apply any time after completing a minimum of 23 credits toward their bachelor’s degree. The professional master’s degree programs require a minimum of 3.75 cumulative GPA, while the executive master’s degree programs require a minimum of 3.25 cumulative GPA. All applicants must demonstrate their interest in the public service sector and their related skillset, including analytical thinking and quantitative methods.

Representatives from the Maxwell School community will visit the Gettysburg campus and hold virtual meetings to share information about public service career opportunities and degree programming.
Maxwell graduate admission/enrollment advisors will also be available for individual virtual advising sessions. Gettysburg students who have at least 15 credits completed toward their bachelor’s degree and have already met with a Maxwell admission/enrollment advisor can then meet with advisors from Maxwell’s Palmer Career Center. Upon visiting Syracuse’s campus, Gettysburg students and alumni are invited to connect with Maxwell faculty and staff, enjoy lunch, receive a campus tour, and sit in on a graduate class.
“We are delighted to announce our partnership with Gettysburg College,” said Maxwell School Dean David M. Van Slyke. “This is a perfect pairing, as the motto at Gettysburg is ‘Do Great Work.’ What better way to complement your undergraduate education than by pursuing a graduate degree from the Maxwell School, where we have a commitment—drawn from the Athenian Oath inscribed in our foyer—to leave the world, ‘greater, better and more beautiful’ than we found it. I look forward to the many benefits of this partnership for our students and for our communities.”
