The Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College has named Kevin Nealer, a principal and partner of The Scowcroft Group, as a Non-Resident Expert of the Eisenhower Institute. The Scowcroft Group is one of the best-known and most-respected global strategic advisors in Washington, D.C.
Nealer will focus on the areas of economic security, trade, and United States relations with Asia. Additionally, Nealer will help support the Institute and elevate the important work it does—from convening conversations on pressing policy questions, to preparing students to be engaged global citizens who contribute to the greater good.
Nealer has already assisted in building on the timely and important topics the Eisenhower Institute has been known for facilitating. Just this year, thought leaders like veteran political analysts Charlie Cook and Stuart Rothenberg, former China director at the National Security Council and diplomat Ryan Hass, political commentator David Gergen, and Director of Foreign and Defense Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute Kori Schake participated in virtual events with the Institute. They convened to discuss a range of topics including American politics after the 2020 election, hyper-partisanship in the United States, U.S-China relations, and the history of U.S. foreign interventions.
“Kevin Nealer is a distinguished professional who knows well the ways of our nation’s capital,” said Susan Eisenhower, co-founder and resident expert at the Eisenhower Institute. “He will bring to the Institute his considerable insights into national and geopolitical policy development, thus enriching our student experience and offering first-hand knowledge of how to get things done.”
Additionally, Nealer’s new role with the Institute will help bolster the vision of the College’s newly launched Strategic Plan, which underscores the value of civic knowledge and engagement; diversity, inclusion, and belonging; and ethical and effective leadership across disciplines.

About Kevin Nealer
Nealer has lead responsibility for The Scowcroft Group’s support for the investment community, providing guidance to leading international financial firms. With more than 30 years of experience in emerging markets, he assists industrial and financial clients in global investing. A former career Foreign Service Officer, Nealer was trade policy advisor to the U.S. Senate leadership. His most recent government service has been as a member of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
A former Fulbright professor in China, he has served as an adjunct professor, guest lecturer, and advisory board member of Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, and as a guest lecturer at the National Defense University, Naval War College, West Point, and Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He chaired the Advisory Board of the University of Michigan’s Washington Program and is a member of Case Western Reserve University’s International Visitors Committee. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
