Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS) - Washington DC

Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS) website

Advisor/Important notes:

  • This internship-focused program works for most majors!
  • Students can use their interactive internship map to locate the organizations that students have completed their internships with in the past.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to start looking at internships, and can begin applying to internships and/or finding their own internships prior to the start of the semester, but the staff at LCWS will become increasingly hands-on as the start of the semester approaches. If students don’t have an internship arranged before the semester begins, this is okay and LCWS staff will help students make sure they find an internship.
  • Students are guaranteed internships for four days a week Monday-Thursday (8 credits, 2 course units) and then take two courses in the evenings. Fridays are reserved for field trips.
  • Students in the past have loved getting involved with the Eisenhower Institute location in D.C. during their semester with LCWS!

Program Highlights:

  • The Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS) is an immersive and transformative global study program designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to learn and intern in the nation's capital. They believe that learning extends far beyond the confines of a traditional classroom, and their program is built on the principle that experiential education is the key to unlocking personal and intellectual growth.
  • LCWS connects students with internship opportunities to help provide real-world experience to further their educational and professional goal and prepares students for life after college and to make them more active citizens in their communities.
  • This is a great program for students who are interested in networking and want to get into a career in D.C! Every Friday of the semester is reserved for a program called “DC Experience.” LCWS organizes field trips, lectures, and seminars at various sites throughout the D.C. area.
