Co-curricular Learning Goals

Citizenship: Responsibility to the Community

Through their co-curricular experience at Gettysburg, students will be able to:

  • Commit to the rights and responsibilities of membership in the Gettysburg community (Informed Citizenship)
  • Utilize their knowledge and skills for the benefit of the community (Active Engagement)
  • Take personal accountability for the impact of their actions and decisions on the lives of others (Interconnectedness)
  • Develop and sustain communities over time by passing on what they have learned (Stewardship).

Integrity: Aligning Values and Actions

Through their co-curricular experience at Gettysburg, students will be able to:

  • Identify and articulate personal and institutional values, including Honor Pledge -- upholding the highest principles of honesty and integrity in all endeavors at Gettysburg College, and fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect within and beyond the classroom (Connection and Self-Awareness)
  • Act in accordance with personal and institutional values when making challenging decisions (Engagement)
  • Reflect upon and understand the consequences of both upholding and violating institutional values. (Self-Awareness)
  • Resolve conflicts among values that may arise in the decision making process in a way that recognizes and respects both personal and institutional values (Engagement).

Through their co-curricular experience at Gettysburg, students will be able to:

  • Describe their own identity and examine how personal, societal and institutional factors influence assumptions,
    prejudices and privileges (Examination)
  • Engage in opportunities for cross-cultural interaction and communication with those who differ from them in beliefs, behaviors, values, and views; and who come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds (Connection)

Through their co-curricular experience at Gettysburg, students will be able to:

  • Understand their own emotions, needs, personal limitations, talents, and drives and their effects on others (Self-Awareness)

  • Motivate themselves to pursue goals with energy and passion in search of excellence for the sake of achievement (Self-Motivation)
