About the Garthwait Leadership Center

Who we are and what we value

At the GLC, we believe in your potential to be a better leader. We believe in your capacity to grow, to change, and to inspire others. We believe in you.

As a department within the College’s College Life Division, the GLC enhances the tradition of leadership at Gettysburg, helping students and alumni recognize their potential as leaders and their responsibility to serve. We ground our work in core beliefs about leadership and execute it through living our five core values.

Our location offers a premier leadership laboratory. From the boardroom to the backcountry, on the Challenge Course and in the classroom, our distinctive program is one that encourages reflection, embraces challenge, and inspires self-discovery, all in an environment which champions belonging and collaborative leadership for enduring change.

The Garthwait Leadership Center’s name recognizes the alumnus who has endowed the program, Robert Garthwait, Jr. ’82, a trustee emeritus of the College and CEO of Cly-Del Manufacturing in Waterbury, Connecticut.
