College Life Leadership Opportunities

Welcome to the Centralized Student Leadership Position (CSLP) Process information page.

College Life has pulled together many of the student leadership positions available for students into this one simple process. Please review the available positions and timelines. Please note that there are two phases of the process with positions having one of two application deadlines.

If you have any questions about the available opportunities, please come to the Information Fair on Wednesday, January 29 from 5-7pm in the CUB Lobby or reach out directly to the department of interest.

Phase 1 Participating Departments and Timeline:

Center for Public Service (CPS)

  • Program Coordinators (PC): Program Coordinators inspire and organize volunteer action for social justice on campus and in the community. PCs are placed with a non-profit organization or project and provide ongoing student involvement to their partner agency by developing and implementing programs, as well as supporting volunteers through education and reflection. PCs also create a personal learning plan to further explore some aspect of their community work.
  • 21st CCLC Student Coordinator (SC): The Student Coordinator will implement program plans, coordinate, and maintain the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant-funded afterschool program that serves district/community students in El Centro and Vida Charter School sites. SC will support in the coordination and implementation of curriculum, recruit volunteers, and support assessment of the program.

Garthwait Leadership Center (GLC)

  • Leadership Educators: Leadership Educators (LEs) empower students to develop their leadership skills for public purpose. LEs are trained and paid to design and facilitate leadership programs to support their peers’ discovery and growth of their authentic selves. LEs are placed on student-driven project teams that are the base of the culture and operations of the Garthwait Leadership Center. Importantly, LEs engage in more than 160 hours annually of impactful learning experiences in a focus area (Coaching, Facilitation, and/or Outdoor Leadership) while receiving expert coaching and mentorship, as well as connecting with a welcoming community.

Gender and Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC)

  • Gender and Sexuality Student Staff (Student Program Coordinators and Office Assistants): The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center student staff work collaboratively to provide intersectional gender and sexuality related resources and programming for our entire campus community. The most important role of the student staff is to facilitate a welcoming environment during our office hours (every day during the academic year 12PM-9PM). However, the GSRC team also has weekly staff meetings to work on collaborative programming and projects, both together and individually.

Residential Education (ResEd)

  • Resident Assistants (RA): Resident Assistants live in a first-year residence hall and serve as liaisons and resources to their first-year residents. RAs are responsible for overseeing a floor, supporting residents’ well-being and involvement in curricular & extracurricular pursuits, and ensuring residents’ safety. RAs support community building through programming, G-Chats, and community meetings.
  • Community Advisors (CA): Community Advisors live in an upperclass hall and serve as a liaison and resource to their sophomore, junior, and senior residents. CAs are responsible for overseeing an upperclass area, supporting residents’ well-being and involvement in curricular & extracurricular pursuits, and ensuring residents’ safety. CAs support community building through programming, and G-Chats.

IP Leaders help create these transformative learning experience for the participants by both developing and implementing the pre-trip curriculum to prepare students for the experience and leading participants on the trip itself.

Center for Student Success

  • Orientation Leaders (OL): Orientation Leaders (OLs) focus on the delivery of New Student Orientation to new first-year and transfer students.  Each OL is paired with a Resident Assistant (RA) and leads a group of new students through the Orientation programming with the goal of assisting with the transition from the new student’s previous environment to the academic, community, and social culture of Gettysburg.

International Student Services (ISS)

  • International Orientation Leaders: International Orientation Leaders (IOLs) help mentor new international students from the time they deposit in mid-May to their arrival on campus and through International Student Orientation. IOLs are essential in advising incoming international students on the cultural and academic transition to Gettysburg College. During the summer, IOLs will help answer questions in the new student WhatsApp group and through a series of virtual workshops. IOLs also have the honor of being one of the first Gettysburgians our new students meet, as they arrive early to campus in the fall and travel to nearby airports and train stations to pick up incoming students. After traveling back with them to campus, the IOLs will help the new students settle in to their rooms and first few days on campus. During International Student Orientation, IOL’s attend all program elements and support ISS staff in facilitating many activities, ranging from campus and town tours, to student panels, and evening social activities.
