Important Updates for First-Year Students Regarding the CYC Program
Remaining Events
- March Community Meeting: All students will receive a credit for attending the March community meeting. One of the topics we planned on covering was housing selection. In the coming weeks, Res Ed will be sending out more information regarding housing selection.
- Elective Events: We are aware that some of you may have been planning on attending elective events in the final two / three weeks of the program. As a result, all students will receive one additional elective credit. Please note that the limit that counts for the program is still 5 so if you were already at 5 elective credits, you will not go up to 6.
Moodle
- Our CYC Moodle group is updated with the changes listed above.
- Please check your Moodle to make sure your attendance is listed correctly.
Appeals
- The deadline to appeal a fall event has passed (in January).
- If you wish to appeal a spring semester credit (required or elective), please email cyc@gettysburg.edu no later than Monday, April 6th.
Housing Selection
- Your CYC credits will still be used to determine your lottery number.
Housing Selection Information Sessions
Please join members of Res Ed staff via Zoom to help answer any questions you have about the online housing selection process.- Tuesday, April 21 at 9:00 p.m.
- Thursday, April 23 at 9:00 p.m.
Need a roommate?
Join our Facebook group “Residential Education (Res Ed) Fall 2020 Roommate Search.” Members on this group indicate that they are searching for roommate(s) for the upcoming school year. It is the responsibility of the members to contact each other to make a roommate match. The Office of Residential Education (Res Ed) does not match students for them.Housing Selection Forms
The Office of Residential Education (Res Ed) is currently working to transition our forms so they can be digitally submitted. These forms require that they be digitally signed by each individual.Proxy Form
During online housing selection, if the person in a group with the lowest (best) lottery number cannot select housing for their group at their assigned time, they must designate a proxy to select housing for the group. They can designate a proxy by completing a Proxy Form (via “Applications” in CNAV/MyHousing). Once this form is submitted, Residential Education (Res Ed) staff will “transfer” their lottery time to the proxy so the proxy can select housing for their group. Please allow for up to two business days for the lottery time to be transferred. After this change is made, the student with the lowest (best) lottery number will no longer be responsible for carrying the housing group through the online housing selection process. The deadline to submit Proxy Forms is Monday, April 20.
Room Switch Agreement
A Room Switch Agreement (RSA) is a signed agreement made between two students. One student agrees to live in a space for the fall semester and they MUST vacate that space at the end of the fall semester so that another student can move into that same space for the spring semester. While these agreements are mostly utilized by students who are studying abroad a semester, any two students can take advantage of this option. Students can complete the RSA via “Applications”
in
to CNAV/MyHousing. It is important to note that BOTH students of each pair doing a room switch must login to their own CMAV/MyHousing account and complete the RSA. If both students do not
submit a RSA, the Agreement is void. Students should submitted their RSA as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, November 6, 2020 for the spring 2021 semester.
Please note the following:
- The fall resident agrees to live in a space for the fall semester and MUST vacate the space for the spring semester.
- If the fall resident changes rooms during the fall semester, the “Room Switch Agreement” will be in effect for the room in which the student resides at the conclusion of the fall semester.
- If the fall resident leaves the College during the fall semester, the “Room Switch Agreement” becomes void.
- NO EXCEPTIONS will be made for the conditions listed above.
Special note for students studying abroad during the fall 2020 semester: The only way a student who will be studying off-campus during the fall semester can participate in the housing selection process for the fall 2020 semester is if the student is joining a group through a Room Switch Agreement form.
If the student who is studying abroad/off campus has the lowest (best) lottery number of the group, the group can use the number to select housing. This will need to be noted on the Room Switch Agreement form.
