Leadership Position Requirements

LEADERSHIP POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Organizations are expected to elect leadership that will work collaboratively to provide direction to the organization and manage its day-to-day operations. Leaders are expected to work with College staff, advisors, headquarters staff, governing councils, and the greater Gettysburg College community to meet the expectations and obligations of the organization while providing a positive, safe, and developmental membership experience.

Required Positions

All chapters are expected to have a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Inclusion Chair/Greek Life Equity & Inclusion Representative, Council Judicial Board Representative, Risk Manager, and New Member Educator. All residential organizations are also required to have a House Manager. Multiple positions can be held by the same member and the name of the position can vary based on an organization’s standards and preferences.

Attendance at Leadership Training

Chapter leaders are expected to attend the leadership training sponsored by the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life listed below. The Office of Student Activities & Greek Life may mandate additional training as needed for chapter leaders provided at least two weeks of notice is given to the chapters.

Greek Leaders Retreat
All fraternity and sorority presidents are expected to attend the Greek Leaders Retreat in both the fall and spring semesters. These retreats will be held during the week before classes begin. If a chapter president is unable to attend the retreat, another member of the organization’s executive board must replace them.

Social Host Liability Training
All fraternity and sorority presidents, risk managers, and social chairs are expected to attend Social Host Liability Training each semester. If a chapter officer is unable to attend the training, they must notify the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life that they will be absent and schedule a time to make up the training.

Judicial Board Training
All fraternity and sorority Judicial Board Representatives are expected to attend conduct resolution process training before their respective board hears its first case each semester. If a representative misses training they must still attend meetings and conferences but may not contribute to deliberations or vote on outcomes until they complete the training.

House Manager Meetings
House Managers are expected to attend all House Manager meetings. At least two meetings will be held each semester and will be scheduled based on when classes begin and when housing rosters need to be updated.

President One on Ones

Every chapter president is expected to meet with their advisor in the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life at least once every two weeks while classes are in session. If a president is unable to attend a meeting, they are responsible for notifying their advisor in the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life and rescheduling the meeting.
