Our role
If you choose to prepare yourself to apply for one of the nationally competitive scholarships described on this website, you have faculty members and administrators at Gettysburg who are invested in offering (and/or working with you to create) the kinds of opportunities, both inside the classroom and beyond, that could make you an attractive candidate to the various scholarships’ selection committees. In addition, we have a corps of Faculty Fellowship Advisors who have volunteered to assist students during all phases of the application process—from describing what fellowships and scholarships are available given the student’s interests and academic achievement, to assisting them in revising their application essays and interviewing applicants for any institutional endorsement required.
Your role
Although even excellent preparation and a strong application do not guarantee that you will receive one of these highly competitive awards, you will come through the process a stronger, more self-aware, more confident, and more educated human being. As an applicant, you need to embrace the idea that the hard work and time you are expending, very often at the expense of some other activities which are important to you, will be worth it in the long run, not just because of the chance to receive the recognition and the financial reward which might help you live out a dream or make your family proud, but because you truly believe that putting yourself on the line, testing yourself intellectually, and pursuing excellence can truly be a transformative experience and one that may help you define who you are and who you want to become. It is up to you, however, to put forth the sustained effort to take advantage of these opportunities.
