Employee COVID policy for Spring 2022

Employees are expected to adhere to the College’s COVID-19 policies and procedures, including masking and surveillance testing for the unvaccinated. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action.

Vaccines and boosters

All employees are strongly encouraged to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and booster and are required to upload their vaccination record. Gettysburg College faculty and staff members who have not shared their vaccination information with HR—or whose vaccination status is no longer current—will be required to test on a weekly basis.

Employees must send an image of your vaccination card to vaccine@gettysburg.edu or present your card in person to the Human Resources Office located on the ground floor of Pennsylvania Hall. For the purposes of the application of our employee testing policy, faculty and staff will be considered to be fully vaccinated only if they have received a booster upon being eligible and have submitted verification to the Human Resources Office. Employees are eligible for a booster six months after completing the Moderna vaccination, five months after receiving the Pfizer vaccination, or two months after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Indoor masking

Vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals may now adhere to the same masking policy. All individuals are required to wear masks in the following locations only:

  • In classrooms and labs, due to mandatory attendance and limited opportunities for distancing.
  • At events, meetings, and other gatherings if requested by the host of those activities.
  • For spectators in indoor campus performance venues, due to the public nature of these events.

Testing

All employees are still required to contact the Human Resources Office as soon as possible if they are confirmed to have COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who tests positive. The College will maintain your privacy to the greatest extent possible. Employees who test positive must enter isolation and will not be permitted to return to on-site work until they have completed an isolation period that meets Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. Following direction from the CDC, we will also notify any individuals in our community identified by those who test positive for COVID-19 as being a close contact.

Vaccinated Employees

Faculty and staff who are fully vaccinated are not required to test. They may choose to test at no cost at the Mobile Health testing site once per week throughout the semester.

Unvaccinated Employees

Faculty and staff who have not shared their vaccination status with the Human Resources Office will need to be tested on a weekly basis for the spring 2022 semester. More information regarding Mobile Health Spring semester hours will be shared soon.

Expectations and accountability

All Gettysburg College faculty and staff members who have not shared their vaccination information with HR—or whose vaccination status is no longer current—will need to comply with testing policies.

Testing expectations

Required to participate in COVID-19 surveillance testing throughout the 2021-22 academic year. Mobile Health testing will be located at Plank Gym. Employees who test positive will be sent home to isolate for a period of 5 days. Employees may return on Day 6 if they are asymptomatic (no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication); however, employees must remain masked indoors at all times through Day 10 and should refrain from eating or drinking indoors with others. No testing appointments will be necessary. Walk-ins will be permitted throughout the week during the testing window.

If an employee does not show for testing during their assigned week, they will be subject to disciplinary action. The only exception to this will be for those employees who share in advance with HR that they are out of town during their testing week (ex. vacation, conference, etc). In those cases, the employee must show up for testing the following week.

Faculty and staff who are on vacation or on an approved leave during the entire week they are to be tested must notify HR no later than the Friday before their week of testing. Email vaccine@gettysburg.edu. Employees who miss their COVID-19 test during their assigned week must be tested the following week as soon as possible, but before the end of the day on Wednesday.

Progressive discipline

Employees who are out of compliance with testing policies will be subject to progressive discipline. Details of the progressive discipline process have been shared with supervisors and unvaccinated employees. The progressive discipline policy applies to all non-tenured faculty, administrators, and support staff. Tenured faculty have a different process for progressive discipline, which is managed by the Provost’s Office.

  • Student policy – Students are expected to adhere to the College’s COVID-19 policies and procedures, including masking and surveillance testing for the unvaccinated. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action.
